Outdoors Japan, a lot of the present day katanas being produced by western swordsmiths use modern steel alloys, for example L6 and A2. These modern day swords replicate the size and shape with the Japanese katana and therefore are utilized by martial artists for iaidō and perhaps for reducing practice (tameshigiri).
